Planning my photoshoot

I will be taking pictures of Scott Smith for my magazine cover and this will follow onto a double page spread interview, which will cover background info, his tour in September.

I am considering having scott wear a mask, like the artist DJ BL3ND,this will create an eye catching front cover as, generally you wouldnt see something like this on a front cover. This will increase interest towards my magazine and could leave readers gripped to the mag.

i will dress him in quite casual clothes as that is what clubbers tend to wear and i want it to stick with my genre of music, although the clothes will be casual he will still look smart.

If i dont have him wear a mask, i will have him tilted at an angle to give a casual look and also wearing some skull candy headphones to create the image of a DJ.

28/02/11- front cover done
6/03/11- content page done
20/03/11- project complete/ final deadline

analysing the journalistic style and structure of an article

The article quickly grabs the attention of the reader with back ground about the Dj this creates interest between the reader and the magazine as they may not of known this artist this is important as it keeps the reader interested and makes them want to read on and discover more.

The word "DJing", is important as it shows new readers what this artists role is in the genre of dance.

The interview uses short sentences and is very easy to understand this is important as it keeps readers interested unlike if it was long.

"We take it.."  is an informal style of writing, this is important as it allows the reader to feel more casual and feel the interview was relaxed.

The question are put in bold to stand out next to the answer to allow the reader to be able to see the questions asked by mixmag and the answers given by the DJ this is an important layout as it keeps the article simple and easy to understand.

the picture at the side allows the reader to see who the artist is, this allows him to be easily recognised, and become a global icon.

Although the text may not be formal the layout of the page is in a formal manner to keep everything looking organised and professional.

Mood board

This is my mood board these artists are huge in the dance market and the colours of texts and images are also eye catching.

Circulation figures

After researching over the internet i was unable to find circulation figures for electro house and dance magazines, i feel i have found a large gap in the magazine market as i know these are a popular genre through research of the uk top 40, This is a huge oppurtunity for me to fill this gap and realease my magazine on a huge level.

names

Rewind.

Dance.

FTC- for the clubs

The chosen name is rewind.

Project Phoenix, Demographic and Physcographic profiling

Gender- Aimed at both males and females.
Age- 16-26
Socio-econmic status- Middle class people it will be aimed at mainly as they can afford to purchase the magazine.
Psychographic Profiling-
Alot of people would be going out clubbing between the ages of 16-26 and will need to stay up to date with the latest dance music, as they will need this knowledge for nights out so they can sing and dance to it appropiatley. Although 16 and 17 year olds may not be allowed in clubs many student nights are held and also many can get into clubs so it is important for them to look like they know what they are doing.
For ages 18+ it is important as they will be trying to attract a partner for the night and it is important they look cool and up to date, if when they enter a club it is the first time they have ever heard a song they will be all out of rythm and will fail at their attempts to capture a partner.
My magazine will aim to show people the upcoming music news and trends.

Equipment

Some of the equipment i shall be using to create my magazine are:

Digital Camera- take proffesional photographs.
Tripod- steady shots.
Studio Lighting- lighting models face/body.
Studio- Perfect enviroment for pictures.
Adobe Photoshop CS3- picture editing.
Adobe Indesign - Creating magazine.

UK top 40

After analising the uk top 40 i discovered that most are pop and rnb, but there is also dance genre in the charts with Nero, David Guetta and Far east movement.
I think it is important that my genre i am choosing for my magazine is in the charts  as it will then have more of an audience which will make my magazine more appealing for a large group of people rather than a small group if it wasn't in the charts.
I feel that Dance music is big for age 18-26 as it is played in clubs and this is the time of peoples lifes where they go clubbing.

institution found

I have found the instution IPC would be interested in my magazine. This will be because my magazine is very unique as there is no major magazine brand covering the genre i have chosen in such depth.
I feel that IPC will be the perfect Institution for my magazine as they are very popular throughout the uk, Also through indepth research i have discovered they publish "NME" which in my questionionaire was the most popular, this shows that IPC will be able to do the best to publish my magazine and will gain me extra buisness because they are publishsng it.
Online they have OVER 20 million users which means there is a large audience for my magazine to reach i feel this is a perfect set up to get my magazine up and running.

Electro House magazines research

This is a Rather simple design and would be easy to recreate, despite this it gives the viewer the feeling of dance music and also that he is a professional.

This is a simple album cover but yet is very effective as it shows who the dj is and what he looks like.
It looks professional and will therefore be seen in a better image than a messy looking album cover.

This Cd cover looks professional it gives the impression that the artist is popular and big.
The colour gives the feeling of light machines and the colours of dance clubs.
The mouse will allow Deadmau5 to be recognised more as this is there logo.

unique selling point.

i will focus my magazine on the dance genre electro house.
This is a genre that is popular in clubs and in the underground.
This will make my magazine more unique as there isn't another large magazine that covers electro house music, most magazine cover normal dance.
This will help my magazine as it will relate to dj's and clubbers.

preliminary Task contents page.

if i did this again, i would use cad as it would then look more professional and i would create a range of different contents examples to build up my contents page therefore allowing me to reach my target audience.
I think this looks untidy and feel it could be designed by anybody which is not the look i am after, i want people to look at my magazine and be shocked at the level of depth that has gone into it.
I am pleased i made this design as it has opened my eyes to the job that awaits me in the upcoming weeks and the level i must work at.

Feedback 30.1.11

Luke, you need to reflect on the prelim task. What have you learnt? What works/doesn't and why? Also, don't forget to upload the sketched contents page to the prelim task post too. You need to work on this in your own time or you will not keep up with the very tight deadlines. You should have your research completed by thursday's lesson in order to start planning and allow maximum time to production work. See me if you have any questions etc.

Main Conventions

The main conventions that MUST be followed are:
Eye catching words.
Images must be relevant to the genre and target audience.
Artist only appear in magazine to sell their albums.
The title of the mag is the most important thing and must be relevant.
Pictures of the artist must be used when writing an article that artist.
With a dance magazine the colours must give the feeling of warmth after all dance music is related to summer.
Double sided pages should have the main story on or should cover two artists, only popular artist get a double page spread.

Initial ideas

Initial ideas
My first ideas for my magazine was to create a rap magazine as that is a huge inspiration to me, but then I began to think rap stars are always in the lime light and there are not really any magazines that cover the genre dance, there is only one that I know and that is mixmag, so looking at magazine like this will help me get a greater understanding of reaching out to my audience and will enable me to make a unique but well thought out magazine.
